Head Games!!!
Harper went to her 2 month well check on Tuesday and all was well...pretty much! She got her shots and hated every little second of it! I felt so bad for her because she was all smiley and when that needle went into her leg she looked at me with such horror like why are you letting this happen to me!!
A few weeks ago I noticed that Harper's head was a little lopsided! She has always favored her right side. She will only sleep on that side of her head and as a result it has created a pretty nice flat spot. I asked the Dr about it since I was a bit concerned that if not fixed now she would have to be put in a dreaded helmet! I can't even imagine my beautiful baby girl wearing one of those! You can see in this picture that she has a pretty good point going on in the back of her head!
The Dr acted like it was no big deal and gave us this doughnut pillow for her to lay on. She said to give her tons of belly time and not to let her lay on the back of her head. I trusted what she said because, well she's a Dr she's never steered me wrong before! So we went home she laid on the pillow to sleep and I took a cute little picture of her and her new pillow and posted on Facebook. Some of you may thing really Megan why did you need to do that. It probably wasn't necessary but I'm sure glad I did, because later that night a lady in my ward who it a physical therapist for babies with this exact problem called me. She was very concerned about the information that I had been given and told me that she could have Harper's head fixed in a matter of weeks not the lets wait and see what happens attitude that the Dr. had given me. She came over last night and looked Harper over. We discovered that she has a little bit of Tortacolis in her neck, which basically means some of her muscles are tight in her neck causing her to have her ear over on her shoulder. That is what was causing her to sleep on that right side all the time. She measured her head, taught me some stretches to do with her everyday and brought me these fancy socks filled with rice to help position her right to get her head back to the normal shape. She told me giving her more belly time then needed was absolutely not necessary because doing that would start to cause problems in the back of her neck as well as the side. Also she needs to lay/have pressure on the back of her head to get the bones back into place. And that fancy little doughnut pillow, it was only going to make her head more pointy in the back. So basically everything the Dr told me was the wrong thing to do. What a joke!! I'm so grateful for this person in our ward seeing this on FB and calling me, I can't imagine the road that Harper would be going down if she hadn't! Thanks to this wonderful person Harper's noggin will be perfect in no time! It was so nice of her to offer to help us with this (free of charge)!
Also because of this she got a new mobile since Trey broke the old one and she loves it can't you tell! The mobile is helping her alot to keep her head looking up and off the side! But not all things are fun, she hates how she has to be held now. We have to position her in a certain way that keeps her off the side of her head and puts more pressure on the back, which is trickier then you think, and she hates the stretches we have to do them 5 times a day and she does not like it one bit! But it will be good in the long run! I'm so glad that we got her the help that she truly needed instead of waiting til it was to late. I would have hated for her to be the girl everyone made fun of because of her noggin...I know that sounds petty but girls are mean! In a few weeks I will take a picture of her head and show you the difference!!!

Maybe all the head bands that she wears is a culpret too. Since her head is soft and you are sculpting it with those tight little trinkets. Just an Idea... Love Dad B.
